Dronfield Wellbeing Group
We have updated our Meetings page with details of our upcoming meetings & events for the next few weeks, be sure to keep an eye on there for details. Due to the current lockdown, our group’s ‘in person’ meetings at Gosforth Lodge have been suspended for the time being, though the Zoom meetings are continuing to run as normal every Monday at 7:30pm. If you would like to give our group a try, then please get in touch on 07737 315211 or firstname.lastname@example.org
In what has been a challenging year for many, we are thankful to have been able to start the Dronfield Wellbeing Group and get it up and running. We are now holding weekly in person and digital meetings serving people in Dronfield and the surrounding areas. We’d like to pay thanks to all the group members and volunteers who have helped to make the group a reality.
We’d also like to extend our thanks to the various organisations who have provided support to the group over the course of this year, including but not limited to; Chesterfield Mental Health Partnership, Derbyshire Voluntary Action, Derbyshire Recovery and Peer Support Service, Dronfield Town Council, Unstone Parish Council, Eckington Parish Council, Derbyshire County Council Public Health, Healthy North East Derbyshire, Dronfield Eye, Doorsteppa Magazine and Dronfield2geather.
Our group will be back with weekly meetings in the New Year, and on that note we would like to send our best wishes to everyone over the Christmas period.
Although we are not a crisis service, we aim to provide signposting to people experiencing a mental health crisis so they can get help from the appropriate services.
As such we have added a new page to our website outlining organisations people can contact and practical steps that can be taken if they or someone they know is in crisis.
We are pleased to report on the progress of our group meetings which have been taking place for a few weeks now under the dual ‘Zoom / physical meeting’ format. We have seen our attendance grow and we continue to welcome new and existing members into the group.
We have been looking to get feedback from members as to how best to structure group meetings, and taking into account members suggestions we are planning to include a variety of different activities at future meetings. These include events such as inviting guest speakers to give talks on matters related to mental health and wellbeing, exploring coping strategies such as mindfulness exercises and CBT, as well as ‘fun’ activities members can contribute to such as group quizzes, poetry or telling jokes.
Participation in each activity is entirely optional and members can just ‘listen in’ if they prefer. There will also be plenty if time available for the usual catch up and chat that normally takes place at our meetings.
We have updated the Events section of our website to list upcoming activities, so you know what is in store at each meeting.
As a group we are continuing to monitor the ongoing situation regarding Covid-19, and have measures in place to make sure group meetings are Covid secure and compliant with current regulations, more information about this can be found here.
This Monday saw our first ‘in person’ meeting take place at Gosforth Lodge in Dronfield, with a live link to our regular Zoom meeting. We were joined by people both online and in person, and fortunately, the format worked well, without any technical hiccups! It was nice to see the dual physical and online meeting come to fruition and we would like to thank everyone who took part and who has worked over the past few months to make the group a reality.
We look forward to future meetings and welcoming new members into the group. If you would like to join us for a meeting, please get in touch.
Based in Dronfield, Derbyshire, our group was established in Spring 2020 and provides a friendly, safe and confidential peer-support group for people affected by mental health issues to meet others with similar experiences.
Peer support is about coming together to provide a listening ear to each other, sharing experiences and resources, and strengthening our coping strategies to improve our mental health and wellbeing.
Join us for a chat, meet new people, and enjoy a brew and biscuits. New members are most welcome whether Dronfield residents or from further afield.
We are also sometimes joined by experts in the mental health and wellbeing industry.
